Dr. Malcolm Ing was born and raised in Hawaii as the son of a Caucasian mother and a Chinese physician father. In high school, he loved playing end on the Punahou varsity football team and competing with the Punahou Judo Team. While attending Harvard, he met his future beautiful wife, Audrey, ironically, in the Polynesian Book section of the undergraduate library no less. He regularly competes in amateur surfing meets and placed first in the “Golden Legends Division “of the Hawaiian Amateur Surfing Association in 2014, 2017, 2019. He is proud of his 2 daughters and 3 grandchildren and taught them to also enjoy water sports. Dr. Ing occasionally plays golf with his wife who routinely beats him at that sport. His other interests are: pastel painting ,camping, hiking, and yoga.

At one time, before deciding on medicine as a career, he contemplated a career in art. His father who was also an amateur artist advised him to become a surgeon where he would have the opportunity to practice a form of art, namely surgery for improving the appearance and function of the eyes.
