About the Cancer Center at Pali Momi

Overview

The Dr. James T. Kakuda Cancer Center at Pali Momi Medical Center is the first integrated cancer center of its kind serving Central and West Oʻahu and the only program on this side of the island nationally accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.

The center provides a full spectrum of cancer services in one centralized location, allowing patients the convenience of receiving care at a single facility close to home, rather than traveling to multiple locations or into Honolulu for treatment. For patients in active treatment, this eliminates the burden of frequent long-distance travel for rigorous treatment schedules.

Care Designed to Support Patients

Navigating the cancer care journey can be challenging and overwhelming, especially when faced with a new diagnosis. At Hawaiʻi Pacific Health, we believe patients should not have to face this journey alone.

Following diagnosis, patients are supported through our Patient Navigation Program and are assigned a dedicated navigation team that may include registered nurses, licensed social workers and other specialized professionals. These team members provide individualized education, guidance and resources while coordinating care alongside physicians and the health care team to help ensure a seamless experience throughout treatment.

Depending on patients’ individual needs, navigation teams may provide support with:

  • Coordination of care alongside physicians and the health care team through the Patient Navigation Program
  • Educational materials and resources regarding diagnosis and treatment
  • Information on and access to clinical trials, genetic counseling, dietary counseling and psychosocial support
  • Referrals to support groups, homecare services and other support programs
  • Resources for transportation assistance and financial concerns
  • Transition of care into the Survivorship Program

All aspects of care are coordinated with the goal of easing the burden on patients and their families. Patients are also invited to attend a longstanding cancer support group held on campus twice a month with current patients, survivors and their families.
