MidWeek Cover Story Spotlights Hawaii Pacific Health Physicians

Published March 29, 2023

National Doctors' Day is celebrated annually on March 30 to honor the care physicians give to their patients, the work they do in their communities and their extraordinary devotion to saving lives.

In recognition of all of our dedicated doctors, five Hawaiʻi Pacific Health health care professionals represent their colleagues in a MidWeek cover story, in which they share their personal stories about their commitment to creating a healthier Hawaiʻi. Pictured above, from left to right, are:

  • Dr. Ian Okazaki, hematologist/oncologist, Straub Medical Center, and division chief of Hematology/Oncology, Hawaiʻi Pacific Health Medical Group.
  • Dr. Anne Dempsey, internal medicine physician, Kauaʻi Medical Clinic, and section chief of Primary Care for Kauaʻi-Wilcox, Hawaiʻi Pacific Health Medical Group.
  • Dr. Russell Woo, pediatric surgeon, Kapiʻolani Medical Center for Women & Children, and Hawaiʻi Pacific Health Medical Group member.
  • Dr. Kelly Yamasato, OB-GYN, Kapiʻolani Medical Center for Women & Children, and division chief of Maternal Fetal Medicine, Hawaiʻi Pacific Health Medical Group.
  • Dr. Mark Grief, surgeon, Pali Momi Medical Center, and Hawaiʻi Health Partners member.

These doctors are just a few of the hundreds of medical professionals who are part of our dedicated HPH ohana of caregivers who all work in collaboration with each other. Their individual histories and specialties vary, but what ties all of their contributions together are shared values — close attention to team-based multidisciplinary care; forging relationships with patients and their families; an emphasis on the importance of education and research; and striving to achieve our mission of creating a healthier Hawaiʻi.

The MidWeek issue is available on Oʻahu this week and on Kauaʻi next week. You can also read the story online.
